As a result of its deliberations, letters and orders were issued from time to time by the vice-chancellor, and these are normally recorded in the Grace Books. Other orders were issued under the combined authority of the vicechancellor and heads.

Many transcripts of the early statutes have been made at various dates. 5. Two years later order was given by Grace for the sale of the 'superstitious monumentes, whereof by publicke order takyn there is presently no use, being now in the vestrie';3 and a small paper of 1565, recently discovered in the university archives, gives details of the valuation of the vestments, etc. and their purchasers. 4 The muniments remained but as relics of a bygone age. The great Elizabethan code of statutes of 1570, with other royal charters cited in the Act for the Incorporation of the Universities of 1571, so largely superseded the old arrangements that the ancient archives were no longer useful for current reference and seldom needed for defence of privilege.
