FAQ's

Q. I am not able to walk far these days. Would your painting courses be suitable for me?

A. All our Outdoor Painting sites are carefully chosen: whilst the age range of those attending watercolour courses is inevitably mixed, we appreciate that many will not want to walk miles with painting gear to reach an attractive site. We are never more than a couple of hundred yards from the cars, kiosks and conveniences. You will I am sure appreciate that my Little Langdale course would not be suitable for you

Q. I have attended several courses and rarely saw the tutor for more than a few minutes due, principally, to the size of the classes. Are your courses any different?

A. My policy is to conduct small groups, ensuring that everyone has ample one-to-one tuition. Each day we visit a different site to paint and I usually start with a demonstration: it is likely that skill levels will vary considerably even with a small group and I always invite those who wish to get on and do their own thing, to do so. In practice, most of those with more experience will paint within ear-shot of my demonstration, joining in when they hear, in my commentary, comments or tips in which they are particularly interested, e;g perspective, recession, etc.
After the demonstration, the "students" commence their painting, whilst I sit in with them on a one-to-one basis, sorting out any concerns or techniques.

Q. Although I have painted in oils, Watercolour is a new medium for me. Which of your courses would you recommend I join?

A. Whilst your experience in oils will be most useful to you, watercolour, as you know, is a very different and exciting medium. As all my courses are conducted outdoors (except in inclement weather when we revert to the studio) they are not really appropriate for the ABSOLUTE beginner. However, as you have experience of another medium, there is no reason why you would not benefit from my courses, watching my demos, listening to my commentary and obtaining one-to-one tuition from me specific to the basic techniques of watercolour. I would suggest that you contact me to discuss in more detail so that you feel comfortable before commiting expense to any course.

If you have any particular questions on any aspect of Watercolour Painting, I do hope that you will contact me.

Happy Painting – whatever your level of skills!
