Q. I have attended several courses and rarely
saw the tutor for more than a few minutes due, principally, to the
size of the classes. Are your courses any different?
A. My policy is to conduct small groups, ensuring that everyone has ample one-to-one
tuition. Each day we visit a different site to paint and I usually
start with a demonstration: it is likely that skill levels will
vary considerably even with a small group and I always invite those
who wish to get on and do their own thing, to do so. In practice,
most of those with more experience will paint within ear-shot of
my demonstration, joining in when they hear, in my commentary, comments
or tips in which they are particularly interested, e;g perspective,
recession, etc.
After the demonstration, the "students" commence their
painting, whilst I sit in with them on a one-to-one basis, sorting
out any concerns or techniques.
